There are too many bands or groups to name- but, I’ve had a lifelong love for the Beatles- my dad introduced me to their music as a child, and it’s stuck with me. Though not a musical artist, I also love the poetry of Windell Berry. His writings make me appreciate natural beauty and working with my hands.
Rustic Meets Modern
On the side, he’d practice the skills he’d learned from his grandfather, making furniture by hand. The more he did it, the more he loved it, and he just couldn’t shake the feeling that this was supposed to be something beyond a hobby. That was the day Clint met Chip Gaines — owner of a local construction company, whose wife Joanna was an interior designer. It would be months before they'd become the Chip and Jo — the stars of HGTV’s insanely successful show Fixer Upper — and years before they would make "shiplap" a lifestyle, turning Waco, Texas, into a tourist destination for design obsessives everywhere. At its core, Harp Design Co. is a team of craftsmen and designers, always looking to build something that will provide meaning and add character to a home.
Endless inspiration for women living the Western way of life.

So Clint and Kelly took the leap in 2011, moving to Waco to really focus on the family woodworking business. For 45 minutes, they played and laughed, and tried to see the world beyond their empty bank account. They left the park almost hopeful — until they started to drive home. "Sad to say goodbye to something you love & been so successful at but know there are great things ahead for you & your family!! Good luck," writes one fan on the post.
Life
Once he had a workshop to call his own, Clint started regularly taking orders for Joanna’s business. Their lives were pretty quiet — until a production company came calling. "My grandmother’s the person I respect most in the world, so if she thought highly of somebody, I thought they were awesome," Clint says. His grandmother had passed away about 15 years before his move to Waco, but as he got ready to move, he felt a strange push from her. "I tried a whole bunch of different things; some worked out, some didn’t," Clint says. But it seems like Clint's lifetime has been full of those kind of moments — Hail Marys and fateful encounters — that have brought the 40-year-old to this exact spot.

We handcraft our pieces to last, using a mix of old-world technique and modern technology. This quality craftsmanship and our distinctive style can be seen in every piece of furniture we deliver. Our mission at Harp Design Co. is to build pieces that bring you together. For us, there is nothing quite like gathering around a table with family or friends. We hope our pieces help you to create memories, strengthen bonds, and nurture friendships that will last a lifetime.
Harp, who rose to fame in 2013 on HGTV's "Fixer Upper," and his wife, Kelly, said Friday, Jan. 20 will be the company's last day of operation. Likewise, its website will shut down midnight the same day. Harp Design Co. will shutter its doors next Friday, and its website will close at midnight that day as well. "We’re a small business, and we’ve had to grow with the momentum of the show and try not to get kicked off this train." "This is bad. I need to go find a job," he remembers telling her.

Blending traditional techniques with modern technology, our family-practice integrates culture, trends, and research to profoundly capture your essence. And while he didn't love the job itself, he found he was naturally good at it. He was a people person — something he says he picked up from his father, who missed his own calling as a comedian.
Cultivating togetherness is the heartbeat of everything we do. “She said, ‘I want you to know I don’t love you because of some feeling. And when we have to fight through stuff in our life, I choose to fight through those things with you.’ And I was like, ‘I’ve won the lottery,’” Clint told Country Living about his spouse in May 2018. Kelly designs handmade home goods for HDC, makes everyone in the Harp family look good, is a lover of just about anything on NPR, an avid reader, a coffee drinker, a foodie, and craves the beach every day. With a creative spirit, love for all things beautiful, and an eye for design, she is making HDC look better and better every day. And if there is ever a spare moment in her day, she’d prefer to spend it on a yoga mat.
Established in 2016, Hanna’s namesake firm has since served a distinct clientele including celebrity athletes, Grammy-winning musicians, Hollywood artists, tech entrepreneurs, and elite financiers. Hanna and her team’s work has been featured in Vogue, Rue, The Wall Street Journal, CBS, NBC, Luxe, amongst others. Hanna currently lives in Pasadena, CA where she also teaches Breathwork and Acro-Yoga.
"You never know what those things you’re going through are for, or what they’re leading you to," he says. "It may lead to something even more difficult that then becomes something great — I don’t know. I would never have even been at that gas station if it weren’t for all these other things in my life." Harp said the company is not accepting any new table orders, but there are a few items left for sale online. He will also be signing crafted items from the company until the last day of operation. Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and kids.
He hated himself for being so Pollyanna in the first place. Based in Los Angeles, Hanna Li Interiors is a multidisciplinary interior design studio that specializes in high end residential work. Founded by siblings Hanna & Jeff, their passion is to create evocative spaces that truly express what the clients value, and how they want to live. We believe a home is rooted in everyone’s unique journeys — a place that enables you to live a longer, healthier, and happier life.
So when he agreed to help Joanna out with some furniture, he knew he needed a legit place to work. He mentioned it to his friends at Habitat, and as fate would have it, they were closing their cabinet shop. They offered to rent their 1,600-square-foot space to him for $25 a month. Every item on this page was hand-picked by a House Beautiful editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy.
As for his personal life, Clint is still married to his adoring wife, Kelly Harp, with whom he shares kids Holland, Camille and Hudson. The pair wed in 2001 and have been going strong ever since. The reality star reflected on the two falling in love with each other rather quickly after meeting as students at Baylor University in the ’90s. "Thank you also to everyone who has had a hand in creating and growing HDC over the years—you have meant the world," The Harps said in the statement. "And to our employees…your incredible hands have made so many beautiful things, and we will always be grateful." WACO, Texas — Clint Harp, owner of Harp Design Co. and frequent collaborator of Chip and Joanna Gaines, announced Thursday night his Waco furniture business will close its doors.
"I’m someone who’s always loved to talk to people, and now, there’s people who want to talk to me, and that’s great," he laughs. "I just hope the words I say add value to their life in some way — I really and truly hope that. God knows there’s enough negativity out there." Those 'other things' involve the half-dozen lives he lived before launching his furniture company, Harp Design Co. Somewhere between undergrad at Baylor University in Waco, and where he is now, he’d been a director of operations, a copier salesman, a youth minister, a church planter, and a missionary in Paris. Now, with a memoir about to hit stores, all he wants to do is inspire people to hang on.
He's about to launch his own show, Wood Work — premiering on the DIY network Wednesday, May 9, at 10 p.m. And while people are quick to say "it's all because you met Chip Gaines," it's really because he knows to take advantage of every opportunity, even if it means risking everything. The design company employs roughly 30 people and builds handcrafted furniture, according to its website.
After a lot of thought and consideration, we decided to close to doors to Harp Design Co. As Creative Director, Hanna immersed her early training in furniture design at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she apprenticed under industry masters. Hanna’s philosophy on interior design is grounded in both human emotions and visual impact — how a space looks is just as important as how it makes you feel. Harper & Bright Designs was founded in Los Angeles, California and was created to celebrate both living room and bedroom furniture and to help people design those spaces the way they should be with our inventories.
